Diary, 1809, unknown male author (Quaker). Journal of a friend on a visit to North Carolina leaving 9 mo. 27, 1809 from near Downingtown - by horses and wagons. Lodged with friends and in taverns. He gives very detailed directions for traveling, listing turns and miles and geographical details. Eleventh day went to meeting, wrote letter home, very tired (must be in NC?). Visited various friends and relatives. Attended Deep River meeting and other meetings. Mentioned friends from PA and Nantucket. Described meetings and attitudes regarding slavery. Had an idea at yearly meeting that could buy slaves and then free them. After discussion, decided against doing that. Returned to PA.
